Hey, my name is Sander and I give guitar lessons in Wageningen. Would you like to learn to play songs of your favourite artists? Or do you want to learn to write your own songs?
About me
I’ve played guitar for more than 20 years and I am specialized in complex fingerpicking music. Artists like: Nick Drake, Kings of Convenience, Iron and wine, and Harry Sacksioni are a big source of inspiration for me.
In 2012 I started giving guitar lessons, and through the years I have developed my own method of teaching to help students develop their own style of playing guitar. I also write music which I record with music software on the computer. And I give performances on a regular basis where I perform my own music, poetry and comedy. So I can guide you in the whole process: from learning your first song to preparing your own performances.
About the guitar lessons
Costs: €20,- per 30 minutes (first lesson is free ) / or €30,- per hour
During the lessons you will learn all the ins and outs of guitar playing. You’ll learn to play chords with simple fingerpicking patterns. We will practise songs and do different excercises. I’m here to answer your questions and I give tips.
When we practise a song we break it down in short pieces which we learn to play slowly until you can to play them on autopilot. This way you will get the music ”in your fingers” and have your mind free to focus on the intonation and vibe you want to create with the music. When we choose songs to practise I am open to listen to your personal goals and wishes. So I encourage you to come with suggestions of songs you want to learn. But I can also give my own suggestions of songs that you might like to learn. Furthermore I can teach you how to write your own music and develop your own musical style.

About the location

I give my guitar lessons in an office at ”Centraal Wonen het Punt”. The office is beautifully located in the midst of the big communal garden of our neighbourhood. Here are some pictures of what it looks like from the inside.
About my music-theory method: Composingcards (Designed by me to help you on your way)
For the students that would like to know more about music theory and composing I’ve developed a set of pictures and cards which makes the basic concepts in music theory visual and easy to understand. With these cards you can start writing your own songs in ”no-time”. And you can always keep the cards at hand as handy cheat sheets and ”thinking-tools” for when you are composing your new songs.

This set of composingcards contains:
● An overview of all the notes on the guitar neck.
-Also includes black and white coloringpages for drawing out any chord or scale you like. Ideal as a sketchpad for writing new music.
● A table of chords
-this is a cheat sheet showing the formulas to make many different types of chords.
● A table of scales
-This is a cheat sheet showing the formulas to make many different types of scales.
-Also includes an overview of the seven diatonic modes of the major scale.
● An overview of the five basic chord shapes for major and minor chords.
-This overview also shows how the major and minor scales fit around the chords.
-And you can use this overview to derive different types of chords from the basic major and minor chords.
● An overview of the CAGED-system.
-With the caged system you can learn to understand scales and chords over the whole fretboard. Discover the underlying logic by simply connecting the five basic chord shapes to each other.
● A large collection of scale and chord cards.
– This collection of cards contains many different types of chords and scales and enables you to see in the blink of an eye what notes they contain.
– By combining the scale and chord cards you can discover which chords have overlapping notes with witch scales and vice versa. This will help you to choose chords that support your melody (and to choose melodies that fit beautifully over your chord progressions).For this application I suggest to use the elongated scalecards which are also included in the whole package.
● A piano with the notes written on the paino keys.
-Use this piano in combination with the scale and chord cards to find all the notes that the scales and chords contain.
● An interfolds card
-When two notes are played together they interact in a way which has a specific degree of harmony. This card shows all the interfolds and their degrees of harmony and dissonance.
● The circle of fifths.
-The circle of fifths is the secret that almost all popstars use to write their music. The circle of fifts shows you in the blink of an eye which chords will sound good together and which scale you can use to make fitting melodies. As a bonus I also show you in the diagram what notes the chords are made of.
● A few special cards with simple formulas to break the musical rules in an elegant way.
-These ”tricks” are a great tool for giving your music that original emotional depth.
